Every woman deserves to have a breathtaking piece of gold jewelry, but which type is the most flattering for you?

In any shape and color, gold jewelry is enchanting, especially when surrounded by beautiful diamonds.

But, here’s the thing: like your BFF, jewelry should always flatter you and make you feel great about yourself—and there are so many varieties of gold, it’s easy to make the wrong choice and look washed out or discolored instead of fabulous. Knowing which shade of gold looks best on you guarantees that you’ll always look amazing with any of our ZYDO pieces.

In this post, we’ll tell you all about the three main color categories of gold jewelry and which one is best for your complexion.

Sounds good? Let’s go for the gold!

But before that, don’t miss out on our Guide: What To Wear To a Wedding 2018.

The Undertone

Before we start trying some pretty pieces on with YOUR complexion, let’s start with the theory behind our matching principles.

Have you ever wondered why some gold jewelry looks amazing on you, while other pieces seem to hate you? Have you ever lusted after a stunning gem-studded piece, then reconsidered because it didn’t quite make you look like a red carpet diva?
We feel your pain!

The answer is skin deep. We’re talking about your undertone—how warm or cool your skin tone is. This is very different from your skin color, and it affects the way certain colors (like the ones in your clothing, hair, jewelry, and even makeup) look on you.

Knowing your undertone can help you make the best styling choices—which will bring out the inner glow we know every ZYDO woman has.

How to find your undertone

First, find a spot with plenty of natural light—don’t try to figure out your undertone at the makeup counter or under the harsh lighting of your office—overhead artificial light won’t show your real color.

Expose your wrists—roll up your sleeves and take off bracelets, watches, anything that isn’t skin. Look at the veins on the undersides of your wrists. What’s their color?

Are your veins blue or purple? You have a cool undertone.

Are your veins green? You have a warm undertone.

Is it too close to call? You’re in luck, because you have a neutral undertone and can rock just about any color you desire.

Another test we recommend, especially in the summer, is how your complexion is affected by the sun. But be safe! Do not try this out without slathering on sunscreen and taking all the precautions at the beach or poolside to keep your beautiful skin protected.

Do you tend to burn easily under the sun? You have a cool undertone.

Do you develop a tan while lounging by the pool with your mojito? You have a warm undertone, regardless of whether your tan appears immediately after, or later in the day.

Now that we’ve got the theory out of the way, it’s time to talk about the types of gold.

Yellow Gold

First of all: every shade of gold has yellow gold as a base. The different shades of gold you see on the market come from creating an alloy—a mixture of gold with other metals—to create a different color or to add hardness or durability.

When yellow gold is 100% pure (unblended), it’s called 24K (24 carat). However, 24K gold is surprisingly soft, which makes it hard to hold a complex shape and vulnerable to scratches and nicks. Most commonly, jewelers work with 18K gold—an alloy of 75% gold and 25% other metals. ZYDO uses silver and copper in its 18K alloy—precious metals that maintain the luster and smoothness in gold, and don’t compete with its warm yellow.

Yellow gold jewelry looks amazing on women with a warm undertone skin. If you have an olive tone, you’ll look like a classic golden goddess with yellow gold jewelry.
